PUNTO FIJO, Venezuela, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Venezuela has restarted the catalytic cracker at its Cardon refinery after completing a four-month maintenance program, adding 70,000 barrels per day to the OPEC nation's oil output, a union official told Reuters.
The Cardon refinery has a total output potential of 180,000 barrels per day but it is not producing at capacity because its alkylation unit is still paralyzed, union leader Ivan Freites told Reuters, citing a report from state oil company PDVSA.
Separately, Freites said the country's largest refinery, Amuay, was producing at 51 percent of its 645,000 bpd capacity. (Reporting by Mircely Guanipa; Editing by Sandra Maler)
