BUENOS AIRES, May 18 (Reuters) - Argentine government data showed on Monday the unemployment rate in Latin America's third-largest economy held steady from the same period a year earlier at 7.1 percent in the first quarter.
Many economists question the credibility of government data and say joblessness is much higher as the economy teeters on the brink of recession and inflation runs in the double digits.
The unemployment rate rose sharply in the last quarter of 2014 to 6.9 percent from 6.4 percent in the October to December period of the previous year. (Reporting By Sarah Marsh; Editing by Alan Crosby)
