EDF takes 51 pct stake in Brazil hydroelectric dam operator

PARIS Dec 12 (Reuters) - French power group EDF said it bought a 51 percent participation in SINOP Energy Company, which is in charge of constructing and operating the 400 megawatt SINOP hydroelectric dam in northern Mato Grosso, Brazil.

The two other stakeholders are EletroNorte and CHESF, with 24.5 percent each and both holdings of Eletrobras.

EDF did not give financial details of the deal in a statement on Friday. (Reporting by James Regan; Editing by Ingrid Melander)
