SAO PAULO, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Brazilian plane manufacturer Embraer SA said on Thursday expects the first test flight of its KC-390 military cargo plane to take place early next year.
In a securities filing, the São José dos Campos, Brazil-based company said it expects the flight to happen "in the first weeks of 2015" once all preparations are "satisfactorily concluded".
Jackson Schneider, head of Embraer's defense division, said recently the company is focused on delivering 28 military aircraft to its first client, the Brazilian Air Force, beginning in late 2016. Brazil's defense ministry has invested heavily in the KC-390 program, providing $2 billion for development costs and signing an order worth 7.2 billion reais ($2.7 billion.)
