BRASILIA, May 12 (Reuters) - Brazil's Petroleo Brasileiro SA has notched up a new oil production record of 800,000 barrels per day (bpd) from its offshore subsalt region, the state-run oil company said on Tuesday.
The record output on Monday came from 20 wells in the Santos basin that produced 511,000 bpd, or 64 percent of the total, and the rest came from 19 wells in the Campos basin, the company statement said.
Petrobras is producing 80 percent of Brazil's oil and gas from the subsalt polygon, an area where large oil reserves are trapped by a layer of mineral salts far beneath the seabed.
