SANTIAGO, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Chile's massive HidroAysen hydropower project on Wednesday appealed a special ministerial committee's decision to cancel its permit, signaling that the controversial 2,750-megawatt dam complex was ready to put up a fight.
The $8 billion-plus project, a joint venture between Endesa Chile and Colbun, had its permit canceled in June by the ministerial committee after strong opposition from environmentalists who feared it would wreck pristine valleys in Chile's wild south.
"The Ministerial Committee has acted illegally, outside of its jurisdiction, and as such the cancellation (of the permit) should be reversed," the appeal said. (Reporting by Fabian Cambero; Writing by Anthony Esposito)
