Codelco begins to reopen mines after Chile rains
SANTIAGO, March 26 (Reuters) - World No.1 copper producer Codelco said on Thursday it had begun to gradually reopen mines in the north of the country that it had closed on Wednesday as a precaution due to heavy rains, but its Salvador project remained shuttered.
Conditions at Salvador did not yet permit a safe operation, and 17 workers were cut off at the site, but had access to food and communications, Codelco said in a statement. (Reporting by Rosalba O'Brien)
