Jan 12 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks rose about 1 percent on Tuesday morning, helped by gains in Apple and as oil prices eased off 12-year lows, providing some respite after stock indexes made their worst-ever start to a year.
Crude prices flirted with a break below $30 per barrel, before recovering slightly as investors booked profits. Benchmark Brent crude was up nearly 2 percent and U.S. crude gained 1.4 percent.
Nine of the 10 major S&P sectors were higher, led by the energy sector's 1.7 percent increase.
"The market is still very much in gripped by the plunge in oil prices and this morning we're seeing a slightly little better tone to oil prices," said Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at First Standard Financial in New York. Continuación...
