WARSAW, Oct 1 (Reuters) - The first shipments of copper from KGHM Polska Miedz's new Chilean mine will reach customers next month, the company said on Wednesday.
"The first shipment with approximately 6,000 tonnes of copper concentrate from the Sierra Gorda mine is expected to arrive at the Toyo Smelter and Refinery in November," Europe's No.2 copper miner said in a statement.
KGHM also said that due to an increase in project reserves the Sierra Gorda mine's life has been extended by three years and is now projected at 23 years.
Sierra Gorda began operating on July 30. KGHM confirmed the final cost of launching production at the new site reached $4.16 billion, more than a third more than initially expected. (Reporting by Wiktor Szary, editing by David Evans)
