BUENOS AIRES, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Argentina said on Monday the unemployment rate in Latin America’s third largest economy dropped to 5.9 percent in the third quarter from 7.5 percent in the same period a year earlier.
The jobless rate for the July-to-September period was also an improvement on the 6.6 percent in the second quarter. Argentine unemployment data shows the number of people looking for a job who cannot find one.
The rate of employment compared with the total population paints a bleaker picture, however, suggesting that many more receive welfare payments and do not actively seek work. (Reporting by Buenos Aires bureau)
