Forjas Taurus says Brazil prosecutors investigating safety, pricing concerns

SAO PAULO, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Forjas Taurus SA, Latin America’s largest gun maker, said on Monday that prosecutors in Brazil’s federal district had opened a probe into its role as supplier for police there, investigating safety and pricing concerns.

Taurus settled a class action suit in a U.S. federal court in July, agreeing to pay up to $239 million to owners of handguns allegedly prone to firing when dropped, even with a safety mechanism engaged. Taurus said on Monday that a review by the Brazilian army of accidents involving public agents had found that “these problems were caused by various factors.” (Reporting by Brad Haynes; Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)
