Brazilian judge suspends fuel tax hike, gov't can appeal

BRASILIA, July 25 (Reuters) - A Brazilian federal judge on Tuesday suspended a fuel tax increase announced by the government last week to reduce a budget deficit, according to a court ruling seen by Reuters.

The government can appeal the judge’s decision. The increase in the federal PIS/Cofins social contribution tax on gasoline, diesel and ethanol in order was expected to raise an estimated 10.4 billion reais in additional revenues. (Reporting by Ricardo Brito; Writing by Silvio Cascione)
