Union at Chile's Caserones mine approves preliminary contract offer

SANTIAGO, Aug 15 (Reuters) - The main union at Chile’s Caserones copper mine said on Wednesday its members had approved management’s labor contract offer by a wide margin, pending a final revision of the document.

Workers would strike beginning on Friday if they do not agree to the final revision, the union said in a statement.

The mine, controlled by a partnership between JX Holding and Mitsui Mining, produced 122,800 tonnes of copper in 2017, or 2 percent of total output in Chile, the world’s largest producer of the metal. (Reporting by Antonio de la Jara Writing by Luc Cohen, Editing by Rosalba O’Brien)
