Brazil's Equatorial buys Eletrobras unit Cepisa at auction

SAO PAULO, July 26 (Reuters) - Brazilian electricity company Equatorial Energia SA on Thursday made a successful bid to acquire power distribution company Cepisa, which was put on sale by Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras SA, known as Eletrobras, as part of a divestiture program.

Equatorial Energia, whose shares rose by more than 2 percent after the result of the auction was announced, was the sole bidder for Cepisa, which operates in the northeastern Brazilian state of Piauí. (Reporting by Luciano Costa Writing by Ana Mano; Editing by Christian Plumb)
