Interest rate hikes not seen considerably impacting growth - Carstens

MEXICO CITY, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Mexico’s recent run of interest rates hikes will not have a considerable impact on economic growth, central bank Governor Agustin Carstens said on Thursday, the same day the bank raised rates by 50 basis points.

The Banco de Mexico hiked its benchmark interest rate to a nearly 8-year high of 6.25 percent in a bid to curb rising inflation after a steep jump in gasoline prices and weakness in the peso sparked by Donald Trump’s U.S. election win. (Reporting by Natalie Schachar)
