Peru says May economic growth was 6.43 pct yr/yr

LIMA, July 15 (Reuters) - Peru’s economy grew 6.43 percent in May versus the same month last year, driven by construction and manufacturing, according to government data released over the weekend.

The expansion brought the 12-month growth rate to 3.55 percent, the government’s INEI statistics agency said in a statement, adding that May marked 106 months of consecutive growth.

High international demand for Peruvian exports, including fishmeal, silver, zinc, gold and natural gas, contributed the economic expansion in May, the statement said. (Reporting by Marco Aquino; writing by Hugh Bronstein; editing by Jonathan Oatis)
