China's Shougang expands Peru iron ore project to 20 mln T

BEIJING, Aug 6 (Reuters) -

* China Shougang Group, one of the top 10 steel makers in the world by production, has expanded its iron ore mining project in Peru by doubling the production capacity, the company said in a statement

* The project, in Marcona county on the cost of Peru, will now churn out more than 20 million tonnes of iron ore per annum, including pellets, pellet feeds and fines

* “Expanded iron ore project will become a significant support to Shougang’s overseas development,” the company said

* The project was acquired from Hierro Peru with $120 million in 1992 (Reporting by Muyu Xu and Tom Daly)
