SANTIAGO, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Codelco does not expect Thursday’s fire at its El Teniente mine to affect copper production, the chief executive of the Chilean state-run copper firm told Reuters on Friday.
Codelco halted operations at the Colon Alto secondary crushing plant at El Teniente after a fire that lasted around two hours on Thursday. Other parts of the project were not affected.
“It had a relatively minor impact and we have alternatives to compensate for it for the rest of the year,” said Codelco head Nelson Pizarro.
“We are not predicting an impact on production.”
El Teniente in central Chile produced 423,100 tonnes of copper between January and November of 2014. (Reporting by Fabian Cambero; Writing by Rosalba O‘Brien; Editing by Chizu Nomiyama and Bernadette Baum)
