Peru cenral bank will likely hold interest rate until growth recovers

LIMA, June 8 (Reuters) - Peru’s central bank said on Friday it would likely hold the benchmark interest rate steady at 2.75 percent until the annual economic growth rate converges to its potential pace of 3.5 percent.

Jorge Estrella, the central bank’s head of economic research, also told reporters on a conference call that the economy likely grew by more than 6 percent in April year-on-year, but by under 6 percent in May.

In the 12 months through March, the last month for which official growth data has been reported, the economy grew 2.69 percent. (Reporting By Maria Cervantes; Editing by Bernadette Baum)
