Peru cenbank signals interest rate hike unlikely until next year

LIMA, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Peru’s central bank president signaled on Friday that the benchmark interest rate would not likely be raised until the end of the first quarter of next year, unless a strong economic recovery drives prices before then.

Asked when the bank might start hiking the benchmark interest rate, Julio Velarde told reporters that a hike next month was unlikely and that the market does not expect tightening until the end of the first quarter of 2019.
