Brazil stock of credit falls 0.9 pct in January -cenbank

BRASILIA, Feb 27 (Reuters) - The amount of outstanding loans in Brazil fell 0.9 percent in January from the previous month to 3.23 trillion reais ($853 billion), equivalent to 46.8 percent of gross domestic product, the central bank said on Wednesday.

Loan defaults rose to 4.0 percent from 3.8 percent in December, while lending spreads widened to 30.2 percentage points from 27.8 percentage points the month before. (Reporting by Marcela Ayres, writing by Jamie McGeever Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)
