Italy - Factors to watch on Feb. 21

MILANO, Feb 21 (Reuters) - The following factors could affect Italian markets on Thursday.

POLITICS

Italy’s budget does not contain measures able to boost growth and makes Italy a “risk of contagion” for the rest of the euro zone, Italian daily La Repubblica said on Thursday, citing an EU Commission document.

ECONOMY

ISTAT releases January CPI and HICP final data (0900 GMT).

DEBT

Treasury announces sale of 6-month BOT bills, with relative amounts to be auctioned on Feb. 26.

COMPANIES (*) TELECOM ITALIA, INWIT

The group’s new business plan will focus on the relaunch of its towers unit Inwit and submarine cable division Sparkle, several papers said, adding it is too early for the group to provide much visibility on the issue of a potential spinoff of its fixed-line network. Il Sole 24 Ore said the plan would focus on alliances. According to La Stampa the group could announce writedowns of 550-600 million euros while it might also raise the possibility of a sale of its Persidera stake, a minority stake in Sparkle and Inwit.

Several papers said Vivendi CEO Arnaud de Puyfontaine had filed a complaint with market watchdog Consob on alleged governance violations.

Italian state lender CDP increased its stake in the telecoms group to 5.03 percent as of Feb. 17.

Brazilian government should auction the 5G spectrum as soon as possible, the CEO of TIM’s Brazilian unit said on Wednesday adding that he expected that to happen in about a year’s time.

Il Messaggero talks about plans to merge 17 popolari banks. But it said the most likely scenario at present was the merger of six popolari banks from central and southern Italy.

TERNA

Italian power grid operator has hired Spanish bank Santander to scout investors that could plough cash into its transmission businesses in Brazil, Peru and Uruguay, four sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. Terna could raise 200 million to 300 million euros from the process, two of the sources said.

ASCOPIAVE

The Italian utility started looking for strategic partnership to strengthen its position in the sale of gas and energy and in gas distribution, the company said on Wednesday.

Tenaris said its quarterly earnings per share were $0.19. It said it saw revenues and margins this year in lilne with H2 2018.

PRYSMIAN

The Italian cable maker said a system failure was detected in Westerlink Interconnection. The link is out of operation Prysmian said, adding it was committed to solve the issue.

The club lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.

LAZIO

Lazio lost 2-0 to Spain’s Sevilla on Wednesday as the Rome club was kicked out of Europa League.
