Peru will not reverse recent hikes to excise taxes- finance minister

LIMA, June 14 (Reuters) - Peru’s new finance minister said on Thursday that the government would not reverse recent hikes to excise taxes on diesel and other products deemed bad for public health despite scattered protests against them in previous weeks.

Carlos Oliva, who took office last week after his predecessor resigned in an uproar over the tax hikes, added in a press conference that the economy likely grew 7 percent year-on-year in April. (Reporting By Marco Aquino, Writing By Mitra Taj)
