SANTIAGO, July 5 (Reuters) - Chile’s economic activity rose 4.9 percent in May from the same month a year ago, high above market expectations, the central bank said on Thursday.
The IMACEC economic activity index, encompassing about 90 percent of the economy tallied in gross domestic product figures, was boosted by an upturn in manufacturing and the key mining sector. It came in well above a Reuters forecast for a 4.0 percent increase.
Compared with April, the pace of economic activity slowed from a six-year high of 5.4 percent.
