SAO PAULO, July 27 (Reuters) - Eletrobras Termonuclear SA, a state-run nuclear power generator known as Eletronuclear, is seeking a waiver related to the principal of a 1 billion real ($267 million) debt obligation owed to its parent company, Brazilian newspaper Valor Econômico reported on Friday, citing a company executive.
Roberto Travassos, assistant director at Eletronuclear, said Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras SA could make a decision related to the waiver in the next few days.
Press representatives at Eletronuclear and Eletrobras, as Eletronuclear’s holding company is known, did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the Valor report.
Travassos mentioned the possibility of Eletrobras consenting to a debt waiver during an international nuclear power seminar in Rio de Janeiro, Valor said.
