SAO PAULO, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Brazil’s state-controlled power holding company Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras SA said on Monday the U.S. Department of Justice had declined to pursue charges against the firm under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
“The DOJ has not appointed a monitor or imposed any requirement on Eletrobras,” the company said in a securities filing.
Still, Eletrobras said in the same filing it was negotiating a settlement agreement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission regarding its involvement in Brazil’s largest-ever corruption probe.
Investors in the United States have sued Eletrobras after the company reported large losses related to a sprawling corruption scandal in Brazil. (Reporting by Carolina Mandl Editing by Tom Brown)
