Peru to tighten fiscal deficit target for 2018, 2019

LIMA, Aug 2 (Reuters) - The government of Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra will likely tighten its fiscal deficit target to about 3 percent of gross domestic product this year from 3.5 percent previously, the country’s finance minister said on Thursday.

The new target for 2019 will probably be around 2.7 percent instead of 2.9 percent, and the government will still aim to bring the fiscal deficit to 1 percent by 2021, Finance Minister Carlos Oliva said in a press conference with foreign media.

The finance ministry will unveil its updated economic forecasts later this month, Oliva added. (Reporting By Mitra Taj and Marco Aquino; editing by Diane Craft)
