Brazil's Samarco says has so far spent 4.4 bln reais on 2015 dam disaster

RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Samarco, a joint venture between Vale and BHP Billiton, has spent 4.4 billion reais ($1.14 billion) through August of this year on repairs and compensation from its 2015 dam disaster, the Brazilian miner said on Wednesday.

The statement came after Brazilian prosecutors in Minas Gerais state said on Tuesday they had reached a final compensation deal with the three companies over Brazil’s largest ever environmental disaster.
