Peru central bank predicts 12.5% economic contraction in 2020 after pandemic hit

LIMA, June 19 (Reuters) - Peru’s central bank sharply cut its economic outlook for the country on Friday, estimating an annual contraction of 12.5% in 2020 due to the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic that has hammered activity in the copper producing nation.

The economic forecast, made in the bank’s delayed quarterly report, was down from a previous prediction of 2.3% growth for the year made before the global health crisis. (Reporting by Marco Aquino; Writing by Adam Jourdan)
